In early 2019, following allegations of homophobia and harassment amid the #MeToo movement, Vic Mignogna was dismissed from Funimation and Rooster Teeth, though he consistently denied any wrongdoing, claiming the accusations were a smear campaign and emphasizing that adverse employment decisions did not equate to judicial findings of guilt. Mignogna unsuccessfully pursued legal cases against Funimation and other industry professionals, as explained in a Texas Court of Appeals opinion, which noted that defamation lawsuits require a high burden of proof under the Texas Citizens Participation Act, and that the dismissal of his claims does not constitute proof of misconduct or resolve the harassment allegations. Despite a reduction in public appearances following the harassment allegations, Mignogna has since participated in over 60 events and continued to attract large crowds.
