BiographyRed Buttons (born Aaron Chwatt; February 5, 1919 – July 13, 2006) was an American actor and comedian. He won an Oscar, a Golden Globe Award, and a Laurel Award for his performance as United States Air Force crew chief Joe Kelly in the film Sayonara. During his career he was also nominated for a Primetime Emmy Award, a BAFTA Award, a Saturn Award, and two Photoplay Awards. In 1960, Buttons received a Hollywood Walk of Fame Star.
He also appeared in such films as Harlow (1965), They Shoot Horses, Don't They? (1969), The Poseidon Adventure (1972), and Pete's Dragon (1977).
From the 1970s, he was a familiar face on TV, with his "Never Got a Dinner" comedy monologues.
