BiographyAnthony Dwane Mackie (born September 23, 1978) is an American actor. He has amassed several credits across screen and stage since the 2000s, and his accolades include nominations for two Emmy Awards and a Screen Actors Guild Award.

Mackie was born in New Orleans, Louisiana and moved to New York City at age seventeen to attend Juilliard, receiving a Bachelor of Arts in drama in 2001. He made his film debut in 8 Mile (2002) and performed in stage productions including Talk (2002) and Ma Rainey's Black Bottom (2003). He gained critical recognition with starring roles in Brother to Brother (2004) and The Hurt Locker (2008), which earned him numerous awards. He also expanded his profile with the films Million Dollar Baby (2004), Half Nelson (2006), Notorious (2009) as Tupac Shakur, and Real Steel (2011).

Mackie achieved global stardom for portraying Sam Wilson / Falcon / Captain America in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU), beginning with Captain America: The Winter Soldier (2014) and culminating with the miniseries The Falcon and the Winter Soldier (2021) and his solo feature Captain America: Brave New World (2025). Outside of the MCU, he has starred in films such as The Hate U Give (2018) and The Electric State (2025), and in television projects such as Altered Carbon (2020) and Twisted Metal (2023–present). For playing a fictionalized version of himself in the series The Studio (2025), he was nominated for the Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Guest Actor.
