BiographyHans Florian Zimmer (born 12 September 1957) is a German film composer and music producer. He has received numerous accolades including two Academy Awards, a BAFTA Award, three Golden Globe Awards, and five Grammy Awards, as well as nominations for seven Emmy Awards. Zimmer was also named one of the Top 100 Living Geniuses by The Daily Telegraph in 2007.

His works integrate electronic music sounds with traditional orchestral arrangements. Since the 1980s, Zimmer has composed music for over 150 films. He has won the Academy Award for Best Original Score twice, for The Lion King (1994) and for Dune (2021). His works include Gladiator (2000), Black Hawk Down (2001), The Last Samurai (2003), The Dark Knight trilogy (2005–2012), the Pirates of the Caribbean series (2006–2011), Inception (2010), Man of Steel (2013), Interstellar (2014), Dunkirk (2017), No Time to Die (2021), the Dune series (2021–), and F1 (2025).

Zimmer spent the early part of his career in the United Kingdom before moving to the United States. He is the head of the film music division at DreamWorks Pictures and DreamWorks Animation studios and works with other composers through the company he founded, Remote Control Productions, formerly known as Media Ventures. His studio in Santa Monica, California, has an extensive range of computer equipment and keyboards, allowing demo versions of film scores to be created quickly.

Zimmer has collaborated with Christopher Nolan on six films, starting with Batman Begins (2005). He has also worked on multiple projects with directors such as Ridley Scott, Ron Howard, Gore Verbinski, Michael Bay, Guy Ritchie, Denis Villeneuve, and Tony Scott.
