100 Year Old Driving School - Season 2

Season 2
100 Year Old Driving School is back on our screens, following some of Britain's oldest and much-loved drivers as they put themselves through the paces of a mature driving assessment. Examiners from the Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents (RoSPA) have set up special hubs across the country to test whether our drivers should still be on the road.

Episodes

Yorkshire
In this first episode, we meet a fascinating cast of characters still driving in their 80s, 90s and even 100s. In rural Wiltshire, 102-year-old veteran Royal Naval Officer John Errol Manners has successfully cheated death three times before, so is relaxed about his date with destiny when his RoSPA assessor arrives. John likes to drive on the other side of the road so as to "see the oncoming traffic better" and his family eagerly wait for the result of the assessment.

Box Hill
The Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents' HQ in this episode is a busy biker cafe in Surrey. 95-year-old John William Quince arrives to take his first-ever driving test, but can he prove to his children that he's ready to drive on the correct side of the road? Further afield, Jock Stares - who is in love with life on two wheels - celebrates his 101st birthday in the Gower Peninsula in Wales and 94-year-old Robert Holt battles London traffic to commute to work.

Thornton Le Dale
More of Britain's oldest and much-loved drivers square up to a mature driving assessment. In this episode, the national campaign is back in the picturesque village of Thornton Le Dale in Yorkshire. 91-year-old Jill Hartley arrives in her modern classic car and is looking forward to an honest assessment, but is she is good as she thinks she is? As self-confessed 'petrol head' Don Showell also faces a date with destiny in Devon, we also meet 96-year-old Bournemouth driver Peggy Woolfe.

Bristol
This week, RoSPA have set-up campaign HQ at Hicks Gate fire station in Bristol, and watching their endeavours are a bemused set of fire fighters. First up to take his first ever driving test is former army major John Hamilton, now in his 100th year. A self-taught driver who first drove a Bren Gun Carrier, John thinks of himself as a capable driver: "half the accidents I've had have been other people's fault", but it's a rocky start when he mounts the curb within the first few seconds of his assessment.
Elsewhere, 100-year old Geoffrey Gillow has a point to prove to his daughter who wants him to stop driving, and we also meet 91-year old Alfie Harris in Wolverhampton, who must now take the big decision on whether the time has come to hand in his keys.
RoSPA's national campaign continues in Bristol. Among the drivers hoping to impress is former stunt aficionado Dick Sheppard, who set a record for successfully walking away from over 2,000 car write-offs.

Box Hill 2
This week, RoSPA are in Box Hill, Surrey, to carry out driving assessments at a Bike Café, much to the amusement of passing bikers. First up is Bomber Command veteran George Dunn. Now 94 years old, George still meets up with his fellow veterans in the area and has brought his fellow comrades along for support. Yoga devotee Eileen Ash, one of the UK's oldest drivers at 105 years of age, hopes for another few years of driving ahead of her. Meanwhile, in rural Snowdonia, we meet new character 97-year old John Hazzlewood, who is not letting age slow him down. The retired journalist has always loved driving and believes that one "should drive as fast as the circumstances permit".

Bristol 2
91-year-old Bill Drake-Brockman gets her car ready for her first-ever driving test in Bristol and no-nonsense former teacher Patricia Deacon is determined to prove that she is a good driver. However, 91-year-old Patricia is not the easiest of pupils... There is also a catch-up with much-loved characters from previous series including Mary Ellis and 98-year-old Leicestershire gym fanatic Harold Veazey.
