Capítulo I. Juntos y libres
Two escaped prisoners, who fled Lleida prison in October 2001 with a plan months in the making, managed to activate all state security forces and keep the population on high alert. The Mossos d'Esquadra, a newly formed police force, faced criticism from other institutions questioning their inexperience. The criticism intensified as the escape became more complicated, and the strain and frustration began to take their toll on everyone involved. In their exhaustive investigation, the police uncovered the unusual relationship that developed between Prieto, an unscrupulous criminal, and Calatrava, an addicted, sensitive, and educated offender, whom he ended up protecting in prison from others and even from himself. On Wednesday, October 17th, the fourth day of their escape, the Mossos d'Esquadra (Catalan police) located the dead boar. Ballistics analysis confirmed that the weapon used belonged to the wounded officer, and the location where they found it led them to deduce that the fugitives had evaded Operation Cage and might be approaching Barcelona. Prieto's ex-wife called Julián, her former brother-in-law, convinced that he and Olmedo knew their hiding place. What she didn't know was that the Mossos had tapped her phone and found a lead.

The fugitives try to steal a parked car they find during their escape, but the driver ends up dead, his girlfriend tied up, and the vehicle riddled with bullets, thanks to the gunfire of an out-of-control Prieto. The National Police find the young man's body in the bullet-riddled car, and Santillana, the chief, orders Inspector Vinuesa to take charge. Pau contacts Santillana, the head of the National Police, and is frustrated by his lack of cooperation, but his concern intensifies when he learns that Alfonso.

Capítulo VI. El Caribe
The news of the murder and rape sends an emotional earthquake through the families, but also through Olmedo, who is still brooding over Calatrava's blackmail.
