После автокатастрофы, в которой погибают все дети, учительница музыки Маша теряет свою дочь Алису. Но тело девочки так и не находят. Не в силах смириться с потерей, Маша меняет прежнюю жизнь: разводится с мужем Олегом, оставляет работу и замыкается в себе. Восемь лет спустя выясняется невероятное — Алиса жива. После аварии девочку подобрала бездетная пара. Теперь, когда приемная мать умирает, Алиса возвращается к Маше уже подростком и талантливой пианисткой.

Но за эти годы все изменились: Маша потеряла способность слышать музыку, а ее бывший муж Олег с новой семьей готов на все, чтобы заполучить дочь. В их жизни появляется Федор — преподаватель фортепиано, который помогает Алисе готовиться к поступлению в Консерваторию. Между ним и Машей зарождаются чувства. Тем временем Олег не намерен сдаваться без боя. Когда борьба за дочь переходит все границы, Маше придется сделать выбор между собственным счастьем и материнской любовью.
