After winning custody of his 8-year-old son, Las Vegas comic Jerry Webster heads for his farm in California. Parenthood takes on an extra dimension when Jerry meets his farm hands - a young divorcée, her little girl and an ex-vaudevillian.

Jerry dies a little when Sandy arrives in Las Vegas for his dad's birthday.Just as a chorus girl pops out of the cake, Sandy pops out of the closet-and up pops the stuffy judge who awarded Jerry custody of his son.

Broken locks and detachable doorknobs are hard to explain when Aunt Martha finds Jerry and his pretty tenant farmer retreating-in embarrassing disarray-through a bedroom window.

Equal parts of whimsy and profundity are served up as Sandy and Tracy snitch food for a diminutive chap who says he's a leprechaun.

Jerry and his pixie pal Dewey try to make young Sandy's Halloween party a howling success. Unfortunately, their comical efforts to bridge the generation gap are close to collapse.

Sandy and Tracey enter their pet lambs in a farm fair contest, touching off a furor of parental competition wilder and woollier than the shaggy contestants.

Jerry gets some fanciful notions at the prospect of a weekend alone with Sue. Alas, his waking moments deliver only rude reality.

Jerry learns the hard way that 'like father, like son' ain't necessarily so. After Sandy flops in the school pageant auditions, Dad tries to bring the show--and Sandy--up to professional snuff.

Sue's plan for a calm Thanksgiving with her parents is blown sky high by the unexpected arrival of Jerry, his Las Vegas pals-and her own incredible aunt and uncle.

Jerry risks life, limb and humiliation to go on a hike with Sandy's scout troop. Bugging him on: Sandy's insufferably superior scoutmaster.

Jerry makes the mistake of getting chummy with Sue's charming-and phony-ex-husband. They're so chummy that, despite Sue's protests, the deadbeat is moving in to write a book (or so he says).

When Sue accidentally drinks a martini, she causes drunken havoc on Jerry's plans to impress a TV sponsor.

Despite Sue's vigorous protests, Jerry allows a silver-tongued hired hand to talk him into digging up the farm in search of buried bandit gold.

Worried about Sandy's lack of aggression, Jerry launches a get-tough campaign that reaps exactly what he sowed: a son turned bully and a storm of protest from angry parents.

Dewey's plan to get a comely girl into show business has Jerry facing two hazards: the possibility of losing Sue and/or tangling with the gangster boyfriend of the attractive aspirant.
