Episode 1
In this episode, the Merit team - a unit of highly skilled doctors and paramedics - rush to the aid of a man who has been hit by a lorry on the M6 motorway. Meanwhile, a paramedic looks after an 18-year-old who is in extreme pain due to endometriosis.

Episode 2
In this episode, paramedic Ste Hill blue-lights it to the scene of a roadside accident where a motorcyclist has come off the road and collided with an electricity box on the side of the pavement. Ste does his best for Les the motorcyclist before he goes off to hospital - we then find out what Les remembers of the incident and what has happened to him since. Volunteer doctor Mike Greenway treats Hannah who has suffered an anxiety attack at work, paramedic Kathryn Davies looks after retired butcher Malcolm who's taken a tumble in the garden while watering his flowers, and ambulance crew Tracey and Dan rush a woman to hospital who's in excruciating pain from a kidney infection. Ste has another call-out to an OAP who has collapsed in a shopping centre - we follow Jean as her treatment for this condition reveals a more serious diagnosis - and how she deals with this with the help of her friend Joan.

Episode 3
In this episode, The BASICS team of Dr Ben Clark and student doctor Luke Hawkins go to treat two-year-old Ashanti who has suffered a fit. We meet Wendy, who's suffered from agonizing mystery pains for over three years, and we're with paramedic Jon Cobb as he does what he can to help ease her pain - and then follow Wendy as she finally gets a successful diagnosis and treatment which allows her to get her life back. Rapid response paramedic Simone Armfield blue-lights it to a country pub where a motorbike has been in a collision with a car - biker Simon suffered serious injuries in the crash, but we find out how they helped heal some far deeper wounds in his personal life. Paramedic Kathryn Davies attends to a 15-year-old with Crohn's disease, and her colleague Steve Hill pays a visit to Len, a war veteran who's fallen and can't get up.

Episode 4
The MERIT mobile trauma team are called into action to deal with a man who has been stabbed and hit in the head with a sledgehammer. Rapid response paramedic Ste Hill attends Dave who's suffered an anxiety attack while driving with his two young sons and Cameron McVittie travels to a factory to deal with a man who's dislocated his arm after falling from a great height. Paramedic Kathryn Davies visits a talkative OAP who's had a funny turn which is later revealed to be something more sinister, and BASICS doctor Mike Greenway is called to help a diabetic man whose low blood sugar has caused a hypoglycemic incident during which he's fallen and suffered a serious facial injury. Paramedic Jon Cobb looks after Parkinson's sufferer Melva who has a bad infection in her lower back, and Ste hands out tea and sympathy when he gets a late night call to Doreen, a pensioner suffering a panic attack.

Episode 5
Rapid response paramedic Ste Hill visits a factory where a man is suffering from a suspected anxiety attack and is in danger of passing out through hyperventilating. Paramedic Mike Duggan is out on patrol in Birmingham city centre when he is called to an incident where a homeless man has fallen over and sustained a massive cut on his forehead. The same patient is then attended to just eight days later by Mike's colleague Cameron McVittie. We meet Freda, an 85-year-old who has feisty words for the ambulance team of Tracey and Dan who treat her after she has fallen in her kitchen and suffered a cut to the head. The BASICs doctors deal with the aftermath of an epileptic fit, the MERIT mobile trauma unit travel to the scene of an accident where a young child has been clipped by a car, and rapid response paramedic Kathryn Davies deals with Melvin who has suffered from a seizure and cut his head.

She can rely only on her estranged 17-year-old daughter, whom she remembers as a 9-year-old, and a handful of devoted friends, as she struggles to continue practicing medicine, despite having lost nearly a decade of knowledge and experience.
