Katerina Shcheglova is carrying a child, who is claimed by two couples at once - the Dyakovs and the Mayskys. Kaverin, along with Yelagina and Zharova, has to maneuver between the interests of all parties, trying to establish true paternity and prevent a scandal. The situation is complicated by the unexpected pregnancy of Lika, the Shcheglovs' daughter. While doctors are trying to unravel medical and family secrets, the evening ends for Kaverin with a fight in a bar and subsequent proceedings.
