Hva gjør man når man oppdager at det mangler en stor pytonslange inne i buret hos kvelerslangene, og det like før Akvariet åpner. Driftslederen Torgeir får seg en travel og hektisk start på dagen. Han tilkaller reptilsjefen Remi tidligere på jobb for å dra på slangejakt mellom rør og ledninger i Akvariets mørke ganger. Dyretrener Irene har fått en utfordring av direktøren. Før turistsesongen setter inn skal hun lære selen Vitus å spille fotball. Men når man har luffer i stedet for armer og bein og aldri har sett et fotballmål før, er det ikke så lett. Det blir også foringsrunde hos reptilene og det er ikke akkurat ro rundt matfatet når de to hissige cubakrokodillene skal mates. Lærlingen Frits har sin siste dag på jobb før han skal i militæret. Direktøren vil gjøre stas på Frits og gir han det ærefulle oppdraget å døpe den lille pingvinkyllingen. Etter lange runder med avstemning i avisene har den lille tassen endelig fått et navn. Og når noen slutter på akvariet er det fast prosedyre at de får seg en aldri så liten overraskelse når selene skal mates og trenes.
