Sydney
In the first episode, Julia explores Sydney harbour before heading backstage at Sydney Opera House. At Bondi Beach she joins a beach patrol before heading off to a tattoo parlour to the stars, and as evening falls Julia joins Sydney's drag queens for a memorable night.

Blue Mountains
Julia has a go at paddle boarding with pooches before meeting Australia's favourite koala. She joins fashion designer Jenny Kee, before taking a ride on the world's steepest railway. Her hike through the Blue Mountains ends with a sighting of the plastic-loving bowerbird.

Queensland
Julia meets backpackers in Cairns and heads out to an island turtle sanctuary. She treks through the oldest rainforest in the world and gets a taste for green ants. The caretakers of an idyllic island introduce her to the magic of the Great Barrier Reef.

Western Australia
Julia explores the coastal city of Perth and its millionaire boat-builders and surfers. Later, more than 2,000km north along Western Australia's coast, she enjoys a day at the races in Broome before discovering life in the outback with an aboriginal family.

Northern Territory (Darwin)
Julia embarks on a crocodile safari in the wetlands of the Northern Territory, before chilling out in Darwin, home of the Ghan train. She then hits the open road with a grey nomad to discover life on one of Australia's vast cattle stations.

Red Centre
At Alice Springs in Australia's Red Centre Julia is roped into a dry boat race. She heads back to the classroom at the world's largest school before meeting a retired Aussie soap star at his desert home. A camel ride introduces her to the sacred site of Uluru.

Explorers Way (South Australia)
Julia drives the Explorers Way to the world's most isolated pub, where a small plane takes her on to the ancient landscape of the Painted Hills. In Adelaide, she climbs the Oval roof and meets a ladies cycling team before ending her journey in wine country.

Great Ocean Road
Julia drives the Great Ocean Road, and enjoys a cuppa watching koalas. She discovers a golf course where kangaroos share the links and paddles with platypus before spotting wombats at dusk in Melbourne - the end of her extraordinary Australian adventure.

Against this backdrop of change, the story begins in 1882 — introducing young Marian Brook, the orphaned daughter of a Union general, who moves into the New York City home of her thoroughly old money aunts Agnes van Rhijn and Ada Brook. Accompanied by Peggy Scott, an accomplished African-American woman, Marian inadvertently becomes enmeshed in a social war between one of her aunts, a scion of the old money set, and her stupendously rich neighbors, a ruthless railroad tycoon and his ambitious wife, George and Bertha Russell.
In this exciting new world that is on the brink of the modern age, will Marian follow the established rules of society, or forge her own path?
