Lucía receives a letter from her mother on her deathbed and decides to go to the Beguinage where she is. There she discovers that her death was not natural and she begins to investigate it.

In the Beguinage, they have to choose Lucrecia's successor as Great Lady, while Lucía discovers that her mother was poisoned and is determined to find out who killed her.

The news of Lucrecia's murder reaches the Avellanedas and the Beguines point out Catalina as a spy. Lucía defends her, certain of her loyalty and steels herself to discover the truth. With the help of Telmo, Lucía meets a hired thug who was unable to kill Lucrecia and who commits suicide shortly after, which arouses suspicion towards the Avellanedas. Munio's pressure causes the beguinage to lose benefactors. Guilty, Lucía helps with the sale of her wedding dress. A gesture that puts her at odds with Rodrigo and jeopardizes her stay in the beguinage.

Determined to discover the secret, Lucia follows the trail of the enigmatic correspondence that her mother maintained with a beguine from Leuven. But Catalina's betrayal in telling Munio about her advances frustrates her investigation. Catalina allows herself to be carried away by the fear that the people have towards the freed women after the attack that Simón suffered at the party in honor of the Great Lady. The visit of a commissioner of the Inquisition and the discomfort of Marie Anne who begins to suffer hallucinations, represent unbearable pressure for the Beguines. Sibila delivers Lucía to the Holy Office while Telmo promises to do everything possible to get her out of there.

The days in the Inquisition prison weaken Lucía who, after Telmo's risky visit to confess her love, decides to heed Lasarte's advice and fake her madness to escape confinement. But, far from assuming her salvation, Lucía ends up in the custody of her brother and with the news of the happy marriage between Telmo and Juana. And Lebrín orchestrates the marriage knowing the danger that his friend suspected of being a Judaizer is in danger. Meanwhile, Marie Anne and Gabriela let themselves go and recover their forbidden love story.

Back at home, Lucía focuses on her mother's writings and discovers a hidden map that links Lucrecia to other beguinages in Europe. Her investigation keeps her away from Telmo's attempts to tell him the truth about her relationship with Juana. Until Telmo puts an end to the deception by being honest with his fiancée: she is another woman he loves. Juana overcomes the pain.

Munio interrupts Lucía and Telmo's meeting and discovers from her sister that the man she loves is a Jew who worked for the Avellanedas. Very shocked, Lucía leaves the place without knowing that Munio orders Telmo's death. As the days go by, Lucía tries to find out her whereabouts without success. A torture that ends when she finds him in the beguinage hospital in the care.

The people explode against the freed women and violently attack their walls, an opportunity that Lasarte takes advantage of to lock them in the beguinage with the excuse of their protection. The Beguines, knowing that Lasarte will do everything possible to bring them before the Court of the Inquisition, decide to escape with the help of Gabriela and Gonzalo. A farewell in which Gonzalo witnesses his mother's kiss.

The freed women are interrogated by the Holy Office without knowing that Gonzalo is their main enemy. No matter how much Marie Anne insists on being the one and saving the rest, the Beguines are not willing to give in. Neither is Lucía, who faces Telmo's rejection by getting the baker to confess her treatment with Rodrigo. More established in their love, they manage to put together the last pieces of the puzzle that leads them to Lucrecia's secret. A happiness that is hit with the announcement of an imminent auto-da-fé to condemn the freed women.

Rodrigo's advance of the wedding causes Telmo and Lucía to be forced to flee. But Jimena, always on alert, conveys her suspicions to Rodrigo and he has no choice but to put Lucía on the ropes: as a wedding gift, the king will save the beguines from the bonfire. This is how Lucía becomes the Marchioness of Peñarrosa, much to Telmo's immense pain. But Gonzalo is not willing to let the freed women be freed from eternal fire and does everything possible to have them condemned in the auto-da-fé.
