Philadelphia surgeon Megan Hunt changes careers to become a medical examiner when an accident leaves her unable to operate. In the opener, a body is found in the Schuylkill River, and Hunt's work style proves polarizing to colleagues. Hunt also tries to repair her relationship with her daughter by coming up with the perfect present for her 12th birthday.

Letting Go
A young interracial couple is found shot and killed in their car and Megan finds evidence that contradicts police officers' theory of the crime. Also, Megan tries to reconnect with her daughter, and Peter warns her not to push too hard.

Helping Hand
Megan has a connection to a young woman found murdered in a seedy hotel room. Megan also learns of some challenges her colleagues face, and takes a sudden interest in their lives.

Talking Heads
A severed hand and foot are found, and the team tries to reassemble the victim. Elsewhere, Megan's daughter asks to film her at work for a social-studies project, and what she learns in the process substantially changes her opinion of her mother.

Dead Man Walking
The identical twin of a beautiful corpse piques Ethan's interest. Meanwhile, a patient who died after surgery at Megan's old hospital leads Megan to suspect the patient's doctor of malpractice or murder. She starts asking questions, and hospital personnel close ranks.

Society Hill
A magazine editor is found dead in her mansion, and Megan attends a social event to confront a suspect.

All in the Family
A stabbing rocks the Philadelphia suburbs, and makes Megan recall her father's death. Meanwhile, Megan pulls car-pool duty with the hard-to-impress Lacey and her girlfriends and Kate consults in a pro bono case with Megan's ex-husband.

Buried Secrets
The death of a homicide detective hits close to home for the team. Megan turns to her estranged mother, Judge Joan Hunt (Joanna Cassidy), for help with the case.

Broken Home
A philanthropic socialite dies, and Megan suspects foul play even though the woman had a terminal illness. Megan's investigation holds up the funeral plans, upsetting the deceased's mother, and Kate's personal life interrupts the investigation.
