Independent bakeries compete to impress judges Mich Turner and Peter Sidwell, beginning with a family-run patisserie firm in Dorset that boasts an unusual oven, and bakers in Bath who are keen on foraging. Each business offers its take on the Dorset apple cake, hoping to survive the first elimination and reach Friday's regional final.

Devon and Cornwall
Mich Turner and Peter Sidwell visit bakeries in Cornwall and Devon, where they encounter a flamboyant French pastry chef and a traditional Cornish outlet. Only one can go through to Friday's regional final, so the judges test their skills with a 'Rough Puff Pastry' challenge.

London
Judges Mich Turner and Peter Sidwell visit three bakeries in London, where they encounter a vegan cupcake emporium, a Greek outlet and a typical British bakery.

South East of England
Judges Mich Turner and Peter Sidwell continue their search for perfect pastries, this time travelling to Kent, Essex and East Sussex, where they sample delights including beetroot bread, Kentish apple cake and a French-style salted caramel macaroon.

Southern Regional Final
The four winning bakeries from this week's heats are back to battle once more in the southern regional final. Cooking side-by-side in the kitchen, each contestant must produce a five-item afternoon tea in just three hours and pull out all the stops to impress judges Mich Turner and Peter Sidwell - who will decide who makes it through to the final.

East Anglia
Mich Turner and Peter Sidwell visit a deli in Norwich, a Brazilian bakery in Cambridge, and a bread-maker who shows off his unusual donker loaf. However, only one can progress to the next round.

West Midlands
Judges Mich Turner and Peter Sidwell are in the West Midlands in Litchfield, Leamington Spa and Ludlow. An artisan bread maker, a chocaholic and a family bakery all go head to head - but only one can go through to the next round.

East Midlands and Staffordshire
Judges Mich Turner and Peter Sidwell are in the East Midlands and Staffordshire. Today's competitors are a bakers in Rutland in a disused power station, a mother and son in Stoke who took over their local bakery when it was threatened with closure, and a couple who left the rat race to run a local Derbyshire village bakery. They all have to make a classic sausage roll.

Wales
Wales is the setting for today's show as the search continues to find Britain's Best Bakery. Expert judges Mich Turner and leading bread baker and author Peter Sidwell have their work cut out trying everything from a traditional Welsh cake and a Barra Brith fruit cake to a spicy Kurdish pasty. The stakes couldn't be higher with only one place remaining in this week's regional final.

Central Regional Final
The four bakeries which have triumphed in this week's heats face off in today's Central regional final, all fighting for a place in the national finals week. All must produce their unique take on the afternoon tea and make a St Clement's roulade cake. As they are not working in their own kitchens and are using unfamiliar equipment, it is no easy task. Culinary calamities ensue as the contestants are determined to out-bake their rivals. But judges Mich Turner and Peter Sidwell can only pick two to progress - which of the contenders will make the grade?

North West of England
Judges Mich Turner and Peter Sidwell head to the North West to view three bakeries including Dodgshons on the Wirral, Jewish bakery State Fayre in Manchester, and Bury's famous Slattery Patisserie. They must all try to create the perfect Lancashire courting cake.

Yorkshire
Judges Mich Turner and Peter Sidwell are in Yorkshire today where three bakers must attempt to make the perfect traditional Yorkshire parkin. Testing their baking skills are a brother and sister, a traditional village bakers, and a Marco Pierre White trained patisserie chef.

Lake District
The Lake District is the location today for judges Mich Turner and Peter Sidwell who are on a quest to find baking perfection. The contenders are a couple who took over a bakery just two years ago, a single mum who runs a busy tearoom, and an artisan bakers frequented by Prince Charles.

Scotland
Judges Mich Turner and Peter Sidwell are north of the border to check out three Scottish bakers. A couple show off their award-winning pies, a bakers owned by 500 members of a local community make an elaborate dessert, and a German master baker displays his unusual cake making technique.

Northern and Scottish Regional Final
Judges Mich Turner and Peter Sidwell oversee the Northern regional finals as four bakers go head to head in two gruelling baking challenges - an afternoon tea followed by a strawberry chiffon cake. Who will survive to bake another day?

Finals Week: Day 1
It's the first day of the final week and the six remaining bakeries are back to battle it out for the title of Britain's Best Bakery.

Finals Week: Day 2
The four remaining bakeries return to do battle once more, challenged to supply high-quality items to spectators at Newmarket racecourse. They hope to impress judges Mich Turner and Peter Sidwell, who will decide which contenders have done enough to secure a place in the final three, and who will be sent home.

Grand Final: Day 1
Judges Peter and Mich have chosen their top 3 bakeries. Today the 3 finalists will compete in bread special.

Grand Final: Day 2
Peter Sidwell and Mich Turner send the three finalists back to their bakeries, where they are challenged to come up with an entirely new item that the judges hope could become synonymous with each of their home towns.

Grand Final: Day 3
The best three bakeries of the competition battle it out in the grand final. With just two days to prepare, they must each design and cook a glorious wedding cake for three couples, and be sure to impress judges Mich Turner and Peter Sidwell, who will choose the winner of the ultimate baking trophy.
