They want somewhere to play music, paint and write, but they soon find themselves facing an ever-expanding budget to finish the house.

Charlie Luxton is in Surrey with Chris and Gemma, who are aiming to build an Arts and Crafts-inspired home of grand proportions. But their determination to do most of the work themselves while juggling a family means progress grinds to a halt.
