Minister Maarten Meinema insults a journalist, gets into a fight with the press, and has problems with his political assistant. A decision must be made about Dutch participation in a peace mission. Meinema has doubts and comes into conflict with the prime minister.

Minister Meinema is still wrestling with the question of whether Dutch soldiers should go on a peace mission. Spokeswoman Monique denies that she carried out an attack on the former American embassy as a student, but not everyone believes her. Meanwhile, Meinema must be placed under strict security due to threats.

Meinema must defend the deployment of Dutch soldiers to Tajikistan in parliament. Monique struggles with her secret. The Iranian foreign minister wants to visit the Netherlands, but Meinema and his staff are not keen on the idea and try to prevent it. Joeke makes a disastrous discovery.

Meinema reluctantly submits to group therapy for his alcohol addiction. Louis makes desperate attempts to prevent the visit of the Iranian Minister of Foreign Affairs. Dutch soldiers are sent to Tazmenistan and are to be addressed by Meinema and his colleague from the Ministry of Defense. Helga Cremers still does not trust Monique and is plotting revenge.

Raoul wonders whether Monique has lied to him. The police are on the trail of the Toy Man. The Iranian Minister of Foreign Affairs is determined to come to the Netherlands no matter what. Meinema feels guilty about everything that is happening in Tazmenistan. Louis is retiring; a new Director-General for Political Affairs must be appointed.

Monique goes in search of her former student friend, but Helga Cremers is also trying to track him down. In Tazmenistan, the rebels are advancing further and further, while Meinema's friend Vadzis is being held captive and used as leverage against the government. In the cabinet, questions are being asked about whether Dutch soldiers are still safe.

The fate of his friend Vadzis weighs heavily on Meinema. The Dutch soldiers have barely begun their mission when the debate flares up about whether they should be brought home. Meinema is diametrically opposed to the prime minister. The visit of the Iranian foreign minister seems inevitable and is becoming an increasingly serious problem. The police are hunting for the Toy Man.
