At the beginning of the novel he learns that he is also the father of a bastard son, a little older than Andres, who he had as a result of his affairs with a married woman. Her lover's husband is dying and wants to see him. When Don Francisco comes, the dying man tells him that he has avenged him by treating his son like a little animal, he has never recognized him as his own son, did not give him his surnames, and that the boy has grown up in the streets without protection, education or friends. The man dies and Don Franciso takes his son, Juan, to the hacienda, where it is quite badly received by Sofía. Juan knows that he is the son of Don Francisco, but Andres does not, however, the two boys become friends.
