The programme where viewers across the country help police solve serious crime. Since Crimewatch began four years ago, 189 people have been arrested as a direct result of calls to the programme.
Among the cases tonight, police in Merseyside appeal for information about a series of armed raids on People in their homes. The robbers are becoming increasingly violent. Can you help to find them before they strike again?

February 1989
Viewers help police solve serious crime. Tonight police appeal for information on the murder of Lorraine Benson, a young photographer from south London who was killed on her way home from a Christmas party. People remember seeing her as she left Raynes Park station but where did she go from there? And an armed raid in Northampton city centre which began in rural Norfolk. A distinctive motorbike used in the high speed get-away might be the key to the robbery. Did you see it?

March 1989

Tonight, can you help to find the murderer of Lionel Webb, an estate agent who was shot dead in his London office?
In Middlesbrough, neighbours took on raiders as they robbed a jewellery shop. A taxi driver then gave chase to the car in which the robbers sped away. He didn't catch them but they left behind several clues to their identity.
And in Tunbridge Wells police are on the trail of a man who tied up a courting couple at gunpoint and raped the woman. You could help to catch him.

April 1989
Police appeal for your help to solve the murder of Michael Fahy, who was homeless and had been sleeping rough in the Montpelier area of Bristol. Who were the men seen hurrying away from the waste ground where he died? Detectives will be waiting for your call.

May 1989
The 50th edition of the programme. Calls on the night of last month's programme led to an arrest and produced many new leads.
Among the cases police need your help with tonight is the murder of Jean Kempton. Why was Jean's body found in Wangford, Suffolk, 118 miles from where she lived in the Brixton area of London and how did she get there? Police hope tonight's reconstruction of the events leading up to Jean's disappearance will jog someone's memory. Detectives will be waiting for your call to the studio.

July 1989

Helen Phelps reports on a series of attacks on women in the Littlehampton area of Sussex. Police believe they can be traced back to one man.
And can you help to find a team of Merseyside robbers? When they raided a security van they got away with more than they bargained for and were left with very red faces.
Detectives from around the country will be waiting to take your call in the Crimewatch studio.

September 1989
Peter and Gwenda Dixon were shot dead as they walked along a cliff-top path in Pembrokeshire, Wales. Despite weeks of investigation their killer or killers have not been caught. Tonight Dyfed-Powys police reveal new information and appeal for your help to identify the man seen using Mr Dixon 's cashpoint card.
On London's South Bank 25-year-old David Patterson was shot and seriously injured when he tried to foil a robbery of a security van. Did you see the gunman's getaway?

October 1989
Calls from Crimewatch viewers have now produced 215 arrests. There has already been one arrest and many new leads as a result of last month's programme.
Among the cases tonight is a violent robbery at the home of a Derbyshire businessman.
John Dunn and Marie Nash were threatened and robbed by three armed men who made their getaway in a stolen Vauxhall Cavalier. The raiders trail may lead to Liverpool where false number plates were made up.

November 1989

Tonight, police are appealing for information about the murder of 18-year-old Michelle Wareing, last seen alive as she left a disco in Wigan on 9 September. Did she take a taxi or start to walk home alone?
And in Newcastle upon Tyne a busy travel agency was raided by three armed men. Did you see them as they made their getaway on motorbikes through the city? Detectives will be waiting for your call to the Crimewatch studio.

December 1989
