Episode 1

The adventure begins in The Peak District, Britain's first national park. From the stunning Bamford Edge, Dan and Helen survey The Pennine Way, stretching all the way to Scotland, and discuss The Kinder Trespass, in which defiant protesters won the right to roam.

In the village of Edale, the official gateway to The Pennines, Dan and Helen shear a sheep with third-generation farmer James Metcalfe. After a night under canvas, Dan goes rambling with Mosaic, a group encouraging people from ethnic minorities to access the peaks, then reunites with Helen to mine for Blue John, one of the rarest minerals on the planet.

They cycle along the stunning, serpentine Snake Pass, the first road through The Pennines, and Dan reveals how his recent bike accident saw him escape death by 50 centimetres. They travel to the valley where The Dam Busters trained for their game-changing World War II raid, and they venture out onto the beautiful Ladybower Reservoir in a pair of specially adapted lorry tyres to learn float fishing.

Finally, Dan and Helen become the first members of the public to canoe along Standedge, Britain's longest, deepest, and highest canal tunnel. Running from West Yorkshire to Greater Manchester, the 200-year-old tunnel is as spooky as it is historic, and Dan and Helen marvel at the audacity of hacking through a Pennine by hammer and chisel.

The friends reflect on the first stage of their adventure and conclude that the people of The Pennines are even more memorable than the landscapes.

Have I Got News for You

Based on the week's news, Have I Got News for You is fronted by guest hosts and features two regular team captains, Paul Merton and Ian Hislop. Each week the show invites two guests to cast a jaundiced eye over the week's news, resulting in a fast flow of anarchic, spontaneous and hugely entertaining wit and humour. Guests typically represent the world of politics, comedy, show-business and journalism, and are often themselves particularly newsworthy participants. The final touches of Have I Got News for You are put together only hours before recording, allowing guests to comment on the late-breaking news stories of the day.

The Great North

The Great North follows the Alaskan adventures of the Tobin family, as a single dad, Beef, does his best to keep his weird bunch of kids close - especially his only daughter, Judy, whose artistic dreams lead her away from the family fishing boat and into the glamorous world of the local mall. Rounding out the family are Judy's older brother, Wolf; his fiancé, Honeybee; her middle brother, Ham; and ten-year-old-going-on-fifty little brother, Moon. While the children's mother is not in the picture, Judy seeks guidance from her new boss, Alyson, and her imaginary friend, Alanis Morissette, who appears to her in the Northern Lights.

EastEnders

Set in the East End of London, the show focuses on the tensions between love and family with stories ranging from hard-hitting social issues, to personal, human tragedies. And there's plenty of funny moments too.

Classic characters old and new across thousands of episodes have shared a drink in The Queen Vic, shed tears of despair or joy, sat on Arthur's bench in the Square... and at some point or other they probably crossed paths with Ian Beale.
