Davina examines how animals survive in hostile environments by visiting some of the hottest, coldest, deepest and wettest places on Earth to experience life in extreme conditions. She begins in the deserts of Namibia in south-west Africa, and discovers it home to an incredibly diverse range of life despite the high temperatures and lack of water. Davina goes head-to-head in a running race against a cheetah, camps in the sand dunes overnight and stays with San bushpeople to learn the skills that they have developed to survive.

She swims with a school of dolphins and finds out about the inbuilt response that both animals and humans have when they go underwater, and meets a world champion freediver who teaches her the techniques needed to swim alongside sperm whales, before trying to overcome her nerves and dive down to the ocean floor on a single breath.
