Ex-journaliste Marianne Smidt zet haar zoon Seppe af aan school en vertrekt daarna naar Coffee, Tea & Books, de gezellige boekhandel waar ze nu werkzaam is. Wanneer ze echter op het nieuws verneemt dat een volledige klas in Basisschool De Vlieger bewusteloos werd teruggevonden, snelt ze terug naar de school van Seppe. In een mum van tijd verzamelen ouders en de pers op de plaats van de ramp, en de telefoon van burgemeester Coenen staat roodgloeiend. Hij wil zo snel mogelijk de oorzaak van het ongeluk kennen en hoopt dat 't Stad buiten schot blijft.
