A fire in the home of a respected GP and his primary school teacher wife devastates a close-knit Scottish community, as lives are lost in the blaze. However, further investigation reveals something more sinister than first apparent and the villagers must pick through the ashes to find answers. Was it a tragic accident or something more troubling?

Episode 2
The residents of Kirkdarroch come out in force for Kate and the girls' funerals. Jess meets an old friend of Kate's and is deeply shocked by what she discovers.

Episode 3
Armed with new evidence, the case looks cut and dried, but a new revelation raises doubt. The emotional effects of the fire are taking their toll on those closest to the tragedy.

Episode 4
In the final episode, as the villagers try to rebuild their lives, they have to learn to be honest with themselves and each other. But will they ever get to the truth?
