With psychologist Pippa Grange, he sets about changing the team's mindset and tackling his and England's biggest fear – penalties.

After a breakthrough World Cup reignites belief, the England team return to a tournament on home turf, amidst the Covid pandemic. As the pressure to win increases, Pippa Grange questions her role. Meanwhile, Gareth tries to unite a divided country ahead of Euro 2020, where he hopes the team finally bring it home at Wembley.

In the aftermath of the devastating defeat at Wembley, Southgate's guilt weighs heavily on his conscience. When the fans then turn on Southgate, accusing him of prioritising politics over performance, he begins to doubt himself ahead of a controversial World Cup in Qatar.
Episode 4
As Euro 2024 begins, England arrive as favourites for Southgate's final tournament. Gareth is forced to make some challenging changes to the team and puts his trust in a new generation. When the team struggles unexpectedly and pressure mounts, Gareth wonders how his story will end.
