The banker Dirk Brockhausen reports in panic to Vera Lanz: He fears for his life. A short time later he is found dead. Brockhausen's eight-year-old son Leonard makes Vera promise to find his father's killer. Does his death have anything to do with the case of his kidnapped and killed wife Rebecca four years ago? The kidnapping money and a very valuable watch were never found. Did Superintendent Garber turn off security cameras on purpose to get inside the bank building? What exactly does Wilhelm Brockhausen, the victim's father, have to do with the case? During her search, Vera has to deal with unexplained facts about the case and an innocent prisoner and meets an old acquaintance, the professional killer Ulrike Laske.
