Nathaniel "Natty" or "Nat" Bumppo, a white male, leaves his home valley to seek freedom. On his journey he encounters Mohicans who call him "Leatherstocking" and imprison him. Soon he befriends with the young Chingachgook and sides with the tribe, standing besides them in confrontations against other Indians and white settlers.
