The shiny lighthouse
2000 years ago, Dun Huang's ancient Chinese desert fortress controlled the Han Empire's access to the lucrative Silk Road, a trade route stretching from China to Rome. In the early fifth century, the powerful warlord Xiongnu Juqu Mengxun defied the Dukes of the Liang Empire and breaks the walls of Dun Huang. Mengxun and the Indian Buddhist monk Dharmakema begin to build magnificent cave temples in Mogao.
