Los chicos han decidido abandonar la investigación. Han pasado demasiadas cosas: primero la desaparición de los cinco huérfanos, luego la muerte de Cayetano y la jueza y, ahora, la madre de Carol también puede estar en peligro. Se marcharán con la ruta y ya no volverán más al internado. Todos menos Marcos, claro, obligado a quedarse en La Laguna Negra quiera o no.Paula está muy triste. Su amigo el “gnomo” ya no cuidará nunca más de ella y además Héctor, en el que tanto confiaba, es el culpable de esa situación. Son sus primeras navidades lejos de casa y espera que los reyes magos le traigan lo que pidió: que vuelvan sus papás. Elsa se recupera de los golpes que sufrió en la cueva del gnomo aunque tiene heridas que ya no van a cicatrizar nunca. Para asegurarse de que todo va bien el doctor Martín está haciendo más pruebas, algo que a Elsa no le hace demasiada gracia.
