Elixer - Season 1

When her father Ludo ends up in hospital after a serious hunting accident, Isabelle returns to the Netherlands with her son Art, after having lived in America for years. Ludo asks Isabelle to take over the role of CEO in the family business, Rombauts Pharmaceuticals. This displeases her brother Julien, who has been working for the company for years and has big plans for the company in China. The statements that Isabelle makes in her new role at a talk show table are not appreciated by everyone. In the meantime, Art gets to know Lola. He is immediately impressed by her.

In her new role as CEO, Isabelle is immediately thrown in at the deep end with negotiations on drug prices. However, her father Ludo cannot resist interfering in the affairs, much to Isabelle's dissatisfaction. Julien travels urgently to China on business and is surprised in several ways. Ludo shows Isabelle an unexpected positive side effect of a drug in a study on Alzheimer's. This drug could turn the medical world upside down: a life-extending elixir. Lola walks away confused during the annual company party of Rombauts Pharmaceuticals.

Lola is still missing, Art is desperate. While Julien is still being held against his will in China, Isabelle tries to keep various impatient investors on board. She is once again thrown back on her talent for improvisation. During an important presentation by Isabelle, unexpected help arrives from a mysterious guest of Julien. A journalist stumbles upon more and more things that Rombauts Pharmaceuticals probably does not want to be public. Art is completely disoriented by Lola's disappearance and gets into psychological trouble. Isabelle's mother Riekje comes to the rescue.

Isabelle discovers that her brother Julien has been selling contaminated pills in China and is furious. Julien has a plan to get away with it, with the help of Chinese businessman Jerry Kwan. Meanwhile, Isabelle prepares for a major lawsuit in Brussels concerning the drug Aspergon - an antidepressant. Art starts a small business in Ritalin at his high school. His grandfather only seems to encourage this behavior. Quinten falls back into old habits due to stress before an upcoming piano concert. Ludo drinks alcohol during carnival, a bad idea in combination with his medication.

Isabelle discovers the harsh side of the pharmaceutical industry. In her research into Aspergon, she encounters a lot of resistance, including from her direct colleagues. To her amazement, her son Art receives a ticket from his grandparents for his eighteenth birthday to travel around the world. He wants to leave soon. Ludo searches for the ideal place to grow the sea shell the northern quahog for the promising elixir. Julien does a DNA test to discover whether the Chinese girl Ming is really his daughter. Jerry Kwan tries to convince Julien to bring Rombauts Pharmaceuticals to the stock exchange.

Isabelle delves deeper into the Aspergon file and travels to Romania with lawyer Hamza. She discovers things there that she would perhaps rather not have known. Ludo has trouble getting Riekje enthusiastic about his elixir of life. She has other things on her mind: the pianist for her music evening has cancelled. Quinten reluctantly becomes the substitute. Julien makes Jerry Kwan a business proposal that could have major consequences. Art experiences severe side effects when he suddenly stops taking Aspergon. A night-time visit to a construction site goes differently than Ludo had hoped.

The board has found out about Isabelle's research in Romania with Hamza and she is fired. This, combined with the fact that she has not been able to reach Art for days, causes her to protest violently. To prevent damage to her reputation, Isabelle is forcibly admitted. Art is still experiencing side effects from abruptly stopping Aspergon and gets into serious trouble in Bali. Julien puts things in order within the company, while Riekje travels to Indonesia to save her grandson. Quinten wants nothing more to do with the family. Isabelle finds important information in Lola's diary.

The board and investors turn against Julien and he is unexpectedly removed from his position. The family members have lost their majority stake in the company. Riekje is bent on revenge and sets things right. Isabelle is torn between her disgust about discoveries she makes about shady business practices, the cover-ups surrounding the drug Aspergon and her loyalty to the family. She calls the family together to work together on a plan to turn Rombauts Pharmaceuticals into a family business again. Their ultimate attempt requires sacrifices, but at the cost of whom and what?
