This season, Josh Gates connects with innovative researchers and uses cutting-edge technology to tackle history's most challenging mysteries. The search for answers - and adventure - will take him into the most extreme climates on the planet, as he braves sub-zero temperatures to snowmobile across the Siberian Tundra investigating one of the coldest cases of the Cold War: the baffling deaths of nine hikers on Russia's infamous Dead Mountain. Josh also takes on the scorching heat of the Negev Desert as he descends into newly discovered caves and tunnels that could hold the next Dead Sea Scrolls. In addition, Gates dives into the waters of Panama and the mysteries of Sir Frances Drake's lost fortune. And, bushwhacking into the rainforest of Puerto Rico, Josh pushes his limits (and the boundaries of science) to explain the infamous cryptid, the Chupacabra.

Discovery Channel's set an October 9, 2024 premiere for season 14 of Expedition Unknown. The new season, once again hosted by Josh Gates, debuts with a special two-part premiere airing at 9pm ET/PT.
"Within these walls lies one of the Wonders of the World. For the first time ever we're being given exclusive access to excavate beneath it. Get ready to explore the city and the secrets of Petra," says Gates in the season 14 trailer.
Discovery Channel offers this description of the series and season 14's premiere:

In the two-part season premiere, Josh Gates travels to the ancient city of Petra, Jordan to learn how a mysterious desert civilization created one of the Seven Wonders of the World. With unprecedented permission to dig in front of the iconic Treasury building, he hunts for clues about the enigmatic Nabatean kingdom and helps rewrite history books with the discovery of an ancient tomb."

Gates' intrepid curiosity and passion for epic exploration lead him on a truth-seeking quest spanning five continents. Gates sets sail across the Mediterranean to unravel the mystery of ancient shipwrecks consumed by Greece's own Bermuda Triangle. In Turkey, he unlocks the secrets and symbols of the oldest manmade structures in the world at Göbekli Tepe. And deep in the Pacific, he embarks on a groundbreaking mission to rediscover the lost plane of an American hero from World War II.
Later this season, Gates embarks on a treacherous safari in the savannahs of Kenya to investigate the Ghost and the Darkness, the legendary man-eating lions who killed as many as 135 railroad workers in 1898. Then, it's on to the Wild West, where Gates will investigate the mysteries of renowned hunter and showman Buffalo Bill Cody, and the conspiracy surrounding the location of his final resting place. In the remote swamps of South Carolina, the search is on for the lost treasure of Anne Bonny, the notorious female pirate who escaped a death sentence before vanishing from history.

Beyond the Gates is set in a leafy Maryland suburb just outside of Washington D.C., and in one the most affluent African American counties in the United States. At the center of this community are the Duprees, a powerful and prestigious multi-generational family that is the very definition of Black royalty.
