Fake Cash and Cards

From his 'Fake House' stuffed with counterfeit goods, presenter Dominic Littlewood reveals the extent of fake cash and cards in the UK.

We follow officers from the City of London Police Economic Crime Squad as they battle their way through a heavily reinforced door to reveal a flat used as a fake credit card factory - and catch the forger red handed. Expert Robert Matthews, a former assayer of the Royal Mint, heads onto the streets of London to discover how many fake one pound coins are rattling around in our pockets.

We hear from the victims of 'phantom withdrawals', who are thousands of pounds out of pocket following withdrawals on their cash cards that they didn't make, and a Yorkshire town that was hit with a flurry of fake 20 pound notes, as well as meeting the experts at Cambridge University who reveal the latest scams of the credit card conmen.

Season 1Episode 345 min

Fake Cars

From his 'Fake House' stuffed with counterfeit goods, presenter Dominic Littlewood reveals the extent of fakes and counterfeiting affecting motor vehicles.

When cloned vehicles - cars that have been stolen and given fake identities - are sold on, their unsuspecting new owners can lose both the car and their cash when they are confiscated by the police. The programme shows how to spot a clone by investigating two identical vehicles: one is real, the other is a fake.

A massive service book scam means fake service histories can be bought online to disguise high-mileage or damaged cars. Some sellers of vehicles pay a fee to be introduced to a buyer for their car, only to find out they do not exist. Victims of the fake seller scam where buyers are asked to send money for a car which doesn't exist also tell their stories.

There's a look at tyres which are being sold in the UK entirely legally, and which look similar to leading brands, but are lower-standard copies made in the Far East. On a testing circuit in Germany, the dramatically longer braking distances of the cheaper and potentially dangerous copies are evident.

Fake Medicines
Season 1Episode 445 min

Fake Medicines

From his 'Fake House' stuffed with counterfeit goods, presenter Dominic Littlewood reveals the extent of fake medicines in the UK.

We investigate the huge market in unlicensed and fake medicines and show how easy it is to purchase a wide range of prescription drugs online without a prescription. An analysis of drugs bought by the programme to see what they actually contain brings shocking results. We meet the victims of pharmaceutical industry fakes and see the work of the MHRA, the Medicines and Healthcare Regulatory Authority, as they try and track down the infiltration of fake medicine into the UK.

We also see the drugs which have bypassed the controls and found their way into the NHS, including fake medicines produced in the Far East in appalling conditions. Far greater profits for criminals can be made from fake pharmaceuticals than can be made from smuggling and dealing in class A drugs, and we follow the work of the UK Border agency as they intercept fake drugs entering the country.

Plus, we hear from the mother who had the distressing experience of injecting her diabetic daughter with insulin using very painful fake needles supplied by the NHS.

We show how a man with no qualifications operated as a fake dentist, and meet the victims of his work. In Birmingham, we meet the council officials who catch people faking disability and using blue badge passes to park for free in the city centre. There's a look at the criminal gangs who are faking driving tests by getting experienced drivers to take the test for learners in return for a payoff, putting hundreds of illegal and inexperienced drivers on our roads, and we show a raid by the Driving Standards Agency investigations team and the police where they arrest a suspected driving test impersonator.
