Fate/Zero

In the aftermath of the destruction of the Grail, a guilt-ridden Kiritsugu searches for survivors, finding only death and despair. In the end, he only finds a young boy named Shirou, who is the sole survivor. While attempting to visit the Einzbern many times, Jubstacheit never opened the forest's barrier as he didn't return with the grail, and he never sees Illya again. He then decides to live in Fuyuki City with Shirou, whom he adopts. Five years later, Kiritsugu tells Shirpi how he once wished to be a hero. Shirō promises his father that he will fulfill that dream for him. The episode ends with Kiritsugu remembering the question Shirley asked him long ago about what he wanted to be when he grew up, to which he had replied, 'I want to be a hero'
