What followed was a see-sawing encounter that featured a red card, a wonder goal and a nailbiting penalty shoot-out. Penalties also decided West Germany's meeting with France at the 1982 tournament, but this semi-final showdown had so much more than the shoot-out that ultimately decided it – French captain Michel Platini has since described the topsy-turvy encounter as his 'most beautiful game'.

Also featured is a 2010 thriller between Slovakia and Italy, Nigeria's efforts to upset a star-studded Spain line-up at the 1998 World Cup, and a high-scoring classic from 1986 involving the USSR and Belgium.
