Five Star Kitchen: Britain's Next Great Chef - Season 1

Season 1

Episodes

Episode 1
Thirteen of Britain's brightest and most ambitious chefs compete against one another for a jaw-dropping prize - their own restaurant in one of Britain's most historic hotels. Set within top central London hotel The Langham, the competition is judged the venue's head chef Michel Roux Jr, alongside pastry supremo and hospitality consultant Ravneet Gill and leading global restaurateur Mike Reid. The contenders are tasked to take on a range of epic challenges designed to test the skills they need to survive in the elite world of five-star dining.

Episode 2
The remaining seven chefs are tasked to produce an extravagant dish using the finest ingredients money can buy. Exorbitant price tags and the world's rarest delicacies abound as the chefs compete to appeal to the Langham hotel's millionaire clientele. Those who fail to impress undertake a second challenge in a fight for survival. To prove their business acumen, they must devise a £30 lunch menu and run a busy Langham lunch service. Tension overflows in the kitchen and the chef who brings in the least profit is eliminated. Michel Roux Jr, Ravneet Gill and Mike Reid judge their efforts.

Episode 3
The six remaining chefs are split into two teams to create a bespoke and opulent menu for a VIP client staying in the Langham's most expensive luxury suite, which costs £25,000 a night. The winning team are given the day off, while the losers face a challenge in which they each have to produce a luxury five-star breakfast tray in keeping with their restaurant concept.

Episode 4
The battle to win the keys to the Palm Court restaurant in London's Langham hotel continues, as the contestants are tasked with reinventing the hotel's afternoon tea while staying true to its restaurant concept, and serving it to discerning diners. It's clear the hopefuls are willing to push the boundaries, coming up with everything from a Mad Hatter's tea party and edible soil to deer heart and delicate entremets. And who will dazzle the most when judge Michel Roux Jr invites them to host a chef's table with a few VIP guests?

Episode 5
The semi-final finds the four remaining chefs put through their paces in their toughest challenge yet. First, they must present an opulent feasting centrepiece designed to attract groups of diners who are keen to splash the cash on a special occasion. The pressure mounts in the kitchen as the chefs are next challenged to cater an exclusive banquet for 100 VIP guests, with each chef producing one course - starter, fish, meat and dessert - under the watchful eye of global restaurateur Mike Reid.

The Final
The contest in which up-and-coming chefs compete to prove that they have the culinary skills and business brain to win a once-in-a-lifetime prize - their own restaurant within London's exclusive Langham hotel - reaches its finale. The three remaining contenders must run the Palm Court as if it was already their own for one night and devise and deliver a menu representative of their concept. In the kitchen, Michel Roux Jr watches on with a scrutinising eye as the hopefuls try to prove they are capable of delivering five-star quality dining.
