Opponents Aston Villa last won the competition in 1996, and their season of struggle so far includes conceding a combined nine goals in two league defeats against City.
Pep Guardiola's side were also in Champions League action this week, away to Real Madrid, and they face an FA Cup trip to Sheffield Wednesday in one of the eight fifth-round ties in midweek.
