"New blood" is arriving at a military base in Syria. At the same time, Major Maxim Shekhovtsov says goodbye to his colleagues. Lieutenant Colonel Matyushin comes to see him off, asking with hope whether he has changed his mind about flying away. Maxim makes it clear that he is tired of fighting and flies away.
Matyushin briefs newly arrived officers and explains that their main task is to establish peace in the Syrian Arab Republic. To do this, you need to destroy the Al-Makridi group ruling on this land and liberate Palmyra. The lieutenant colonel also clarifies that the decision on which of the groups to strike and which not remains with each of the gunners personally. To assist them, they will be assigned guides who speak the local dialect and are familiar with the area.

Sasha returns to the location of the military base, he and Sergei have a fight due to the fact that the second is indifferent to the grief of others. Later, Matyushin informs Sasha that he can go home due to his shell shock. In addition, they need to figure out who brought the suicide bomber on him. Sasha is not going to leave for Moscow, he asks the lieutenant colonel to give him a new experienced guide who has no family.
Sergei and Kerim track down the next target and transmit coordinates for their destruction. However, this turns out to be planned by Maksud. Sergei's tip declassifies their location, and the sheikh gathers all his forces to block their exit from the zone. Sasha, seeing that his comrades were trapped, decides to slightly adjust the blow so that Sergei and Kerim have a corridor to escape. The plan works, they manage to evacuate from the point of attack, but Sasha, realizing his hopeless situation, asks Matyushin for "air" so that he does not have to surrender to the enemy.

The Deputy Minister of the Russian Armed Forces sets the task of returning Sasha's body to his homeland, and puts Colonel Kazakov in charge of the operation.
The adviser congratulates Sheikh Maksoud Al-Makridi on the capture of Palmyra, but immediately expresses concern that he still does not control the territories where the nomadic leader Jamal and his followers are located. Maksud is more concerned about revenge for the murder of his son, and he plans to use the body of gunner Vasiliev as bait in order to gradually destroy all Russian fighters

Sergei and Maxim fight off Al-Makreadi's people (the sheikh is indignant, because in addition to the loss of fighters, he does not have information about who is opposing him), they take their car and go to spend the night in a place that Shekhovtsov carefully agreed on back in Moscow. A heartfelt conversation takes place between the men, but Sergei still does not tell who the girl is in the photograph that he carries with him everywhere. Then the sounds of gunfire are heard in the distance, they run to check. They see how militants shoot old people and women, wanting to take away children. Shekhovtsov commands to engage them in battle - everything works out, some of the people are saved.

Sergei and several hostages manage to fight off the attack; they load the bodies of Hussein and Shekhovtsov, after which they try to break through Maksud's ambush. They are helped in this by the captain of the Syrian army, Nasser, who arrived to pick up his friend's body.
Sergei activates the beacon, they are picked up by a helicopter accompanied by Kazakov, and the bodies of all the dead, including Shekhovtsov and Vasiliev, are loaded on board.
Nasser releases Maqsoud with his brother's body.
After some time, Sergei returns to Syria as a gunner and transmits coordinates to destroy the target.
