Hagen and Palmer search for a man in San Francisco who mysteriously disappeared. Hagen, his friend, is arrested for murder. Enter Palmer, the lawyer. Livia Carroll (Samantha Eggar) calls on tracker Paul Hagen and Carl Palmer to find her missing father. This is the worked-over pilot that sold the series.

Marya Small guest stars as Mimi Genfell-Smith, a kooky would-be actress who witnesses a $2,000,000 jewelry heist and decides it's a natural opportunity to obtain publicity for herself, while Hagen unsuccessfully tries to keep her out of sight so she won't be killed.

Nightmare
Hagen is assisting Carol Sawyer in her search for her father. However, there are others who are also looking for him, and he discovers the reasons why.

More Deadly Poison
George Michaeljohn, played by Andrew Duggan, and his daughter Lily (Dawn Wells) hire Hagen to search for George's wife, an escaped mental patient. Hagen searches for an escaped patient (Mercedes McCambridge) from a mental hospital who is accused of poisoning her roommate, the same way she did her stepson 12 years ago. When Hagen finds her in the woods, she shoots him, and he must now depend on his attacker for his survival.

The Rat Pack
Hagen sets out to prove that a 17-year-old charged with murder is taking a fall for his brother.

King of the Hill
A small town VIP seems to be trying to help as Hagen arrives to clear a friend and finds him dead, after an escape attempt.
