Hairy Bikers' Meals on Wheels - Season 1

Season 1

Episodes

Episode 1
In the first episode, Dave and Si come face to face with the three biggest problems facing Meals on Wheels today - volunteer vacancies, the food and its out-dated, moth-eaten image. The Bikers soon discover that to have any chance of revitalising Meals on Wheels, providing fresh two-course lunches, it is going to take a shed load of passion, commitment and sheer hard graft.
After a trip back in time to Welwyn Garden City - the birthplace of Meals on Wheels where it was started in 1943 to help older victims of the Blitz - the Bikers saddle up and head off to modern day Surrey to help a beleaguered council's ailing Meals on Wheels service.
Faced with tired menus, a tight budget and a falling number of volunteers prepared to deliver the meals, Dave and Si face the fight of their lives trying to reinvent the service and drag it into the 21st century.

Episode 2
In this episode, Dave and Si get a sharp slap in the face. Armed with delicious fresh recipes we'd all love to eat, and lashings of their trademark warmth and humour, the Bikers have been making great progress breathing new life into Elmbridge Council's ailing MOW service. But the Meals On Wheels kitchen is struggling to cope with the extra workload created by their new menus and there's a dire shortage of volunteers prepared to deliver the meals.
In no uncertain terms the council's Meals On Wheels boss lays it on the line for the Bikers: unless they can recruit a whole new army of volunteers to help cook and deliver the meals, all their hard work so far will be for nothing. But without some ingenious ideas and a massive face-lift to transform the service's dowdy moth eaten image the Bikers realise that recruiting a new generation of volunteers to help save MOW will be a near impossible task.

Episode 3
In this episode, the Hairy Bikers face their toughest test so far as their mission to save Meals on Wheels cranks up a gear. In Slaithwaite, West Yorkshire, they find a village that's lost its traditional hot Meals on Wheels service. So together with a band of feisty Yorkshire ladies, they set about trying to start a new one of their own from scratch.
Dave and Si know it's vital their new start-up Meals On Wheels isn't a flash in the pan, but with the whole country tightening its financial belt, they aren't going to lobby the council; to have any chance of success, the Bikers are going to have to inspire the whole community to pull together and help.
It's a massive task, but the Bikers are prepared to go all the way to ensure hot fresh meals are once again delivered to Slaithwaite's older people - even if it means stripping stark naked on the windswept Yorkshire moors to raise funds and support for their fledgling service.

Episode 4
The Hairy Bikers pull off a right royal coup as their personal mission to save Meals On Wheels reaches its climax. First stop, Dave and Si are back in West Yorkshire cooking up a storm with the Slaithwaite ladies - proving that with passion, commitment and drive it is possible to reinvent Meals on Wheels and give it a real future.
Then the Bikers head back to Elmbridge, Surrey to find out if all their hard work there, trying to revitalise the council-run Meals On Wheels service, has paid off. And in a massive boost, HRH the Duchess of Cornwall comes to see the work they have been doing and show her support.
Flush from their royal visit, Dave and Si are on a roll and hit the capital. Serving up snazzy snacks to a host of guests from the worlds of entertainment, food and politics, they spread their Meals On Wheels message - we've all got to do our bit to save Meals On Wheels for grannies and granddads everywhere - for our parents and for our future selves!
