Matthew's older brother, Daniel, seems convinced of his brother's innocence until he begins to have strange tormented dreams - forcing Jane to step into his nightmares.

A serial killer is on the loose and police need the help of forensic psychiatrist Jane Halifax to track him down before he strikes again. But one of the investigators resents Jane's involvement and has his own idea of who is responsible. His relentless pursuit of the suspect forces Jane to put her own theory to the test.

Forensic psychiatrist Jane Halifax is drawn into a whirlpool of doubt and anger when she is called in to counsel the survivors of a massacre at an isolated service station and general store. One survivor is tortured by the fact he has been spared, and in helping him with his problems Jane is forced to face her own emotional turmoil.
