Midsummer Eve 1973, Annie and her daughter Mia are on their way to the isolated Stjärnberg collective to start a new life with her boyfriend Dan. On the way there, she finds two people murdered in a tent. That same evening, Johan runs away from home and gets a ride with a mysterious woman. Almost 20 years later, in 1991, the tent murders at Lobberån still affect the people in Svartvattnet. Annie calls Birger in the middle of the night, when Mia comes home late in the company of a man whom Mia recognizes from before.

Avsnitt 2
Annie is questioned by the police about the tent murders and boyfriend Dan finally shows up. They head to Stjärnberg, where they are welcomed by the collective, led by the charismatic Petrus. Johan accompanies the Finnish woman, Ylja, to Norway, while his family searches for him around the Black Sea. It is 1991 and Annie's daughter Mia is now in a relationship with Johan. Together with Birger, they start looking for the missing Annie.

Avsnitt 3
Annie and Mia try to settle in the collective, but Annie is tormented by thoughts of the murders. When Birger is drawn into the murder investigation, it affects both marriages and friendships. In 1991, Annie is found dead in Lobberån, but the cause of death puzzles Birger and Mia.

Avsnitt 4
The police show up at the Stjärnberg collective and interrogate Dan. Annie suspects that Dan is lying about Midsummer Night. Birger discovers that Barbro is not telling the truth about her Midsummer Eve either. In Norway, Johan gets to see newspaper articles about the tent murders. 18 years later, Birger contacts ex-police officer Åke, who still has the investigative material from the murder. It turns out that the police may have missed a possible perpetrator.

Avsnitt 5
Petrus confirms Annie's suspicions that Dan was away from the commune on the midsummer night. Johan is picked up by his mother in Norway, but the family does not want him to come home to Sweden. In 1991 Birger and Johan go to Helsinki to find Ylja, who they suspect has things to tell about Midsummer Eve 1973.

Avsnitt 6
It is winter and the heavily pregnant Annie decides to leave the Stjärnberg collective together with Mia. In 1991, Birger and Johan visit Dan in Stockholm, who tells them where he was on Midsummer Night 1973, and the shadows of the past can finally be dispelled.
