With Richmond Trinity out of business, numerous staff members land employment at a decaying hospital in a run-down neighborhood. There, Christina and Bobbie clash with the nursing supervisor, and Tom must relinquish his administrative post.

The Starting Line
Christina pays a visit to the ethics committee when she opposes the hospital's refusal to treat a heroin-addicted patient. Elsewhere, a mother reveals a game-changing secret to her adopted son; and Camille forges a bond with hospital worker Marcus.

Road Narrows
When he sustains critical injuries in a car crash, Tom fears that he may never be able to perform surgery again. Meanwhile, Candy returns from her tour of duty in Afghanistan. And a child must disclose a hard truth about his grandmother to save her life.

Afterglow
An ethical conflict rages when a death-row inmate arrives at the hospital for lifesaving treatment. And as Tom continues to deal with his car-accident injuries, Christina introspectively considers heating up their relationship.

The Match
Tom recuperates from his car-accident injuries but faces the prospect of surgery. Meanwhile, twin sisters with serious kidney problems have an impact on Camille, and a sick child makes a wish to meet an athlete.

Final Curtain
A pregnant Afghan woman arrives for medical care after a fall, but her life hangs in the balance when language barriers interfere with treatment. Meanwhile, Tom anticipates going into surgery; Camille is caught in an embarrassing situation.

Hidden Truths
Christina tries to treat an old friend but runs into insurance-company roadblocks. Meanwhile, Tom's blossoming relationship with Erin irritates Christina; tension grows between Christina and Camille; and Kelly reveals a hidden truth about herself.

A Mother Knows
Christina teams up with a detective to locate Isabel, who goes on the lam after kidnapping her son from foster care. Elsewhere, Tom returns to surgery; and a hidden truth about Candy bubbles to the surface.

Picture Perfect
In the wake of a critical situation involving her daughter, Christina turns to Det. Nick Renata for help. Elsewhere, Kelly searches for a mourning mother's camera; Erin and Christina butt heads over Tom's career; and Steve is haunted by a past figure.

No Exit
Season 2 closes with a construction accident that causes an explosion, sparking crisis and chaos at the hospital. Elsewhere, Dr. Marshall pushes Ray's buttons regarding his feelings toward Candy; Bobbie and Steve offer truths about their pasts.

The Ministry of Time
The Ministry of Time, a newly established government department, is gathering ‘expats' from across history in an experiment to test the viability of time-travel. Commander Graham Gore (an officer on Sir John Franklin's doomed 1845 Arctic expedition) is one such figure rescued from certain death – alongside an army captain from the fields of the Somme, a plague victim from the 1600s, a widow from revolutionary France, and a soldier from the seventeenth century.
The expats are placed with 21st century liaisons, known as 'bridges', in unlikely flatshares. Gore has to learn about contemporary life from scratch: from air travel to industrial warfare, from feminism to Spotify, from cinema to indoor plumbing; and he must negotiate cohabiting with the ambitious modern woman who works as his bridge. After an awkward beginning, the pair start to find pleasure and comfort in each other's company, developing a relationship that is simultaneously tender, intense and profoundly unprofessional; and the expats, adrift in a new era, form friendships that ground and support them in the lonely 21st century, where they have outlived everyone they ever knew and loved.
When a deeper conspiracy at the Ministry begins to reveal itself, the bridge must reckon with what she does next. Will she save or sacrifice the exiled misfits she has come to care for so deeply?
