The Heisman Trophy Presentation is an annual event that awards the greatest trophy in NCAA College Football history to the athlete designated as the most outstanding college football player in all of North America for the current season. Known initially as the DAC Trophy, it was first presented on 9 December 1935. Following the death of John Heisman in 1936, the DAC Trophy was renamed the Heisman Memorial Trophy as a fitting tribute to the memory of one of the greatest distinguished American athletes and coach ever associated with College Football. Since 1993, ESPN has aired the Heisman Trophy live from the Downtown Club, formerly known as the Downtown Athletic Club in New York City. It is typically an 90 minute-long program featuring interviews with past winners and nominees (with their families and/or coaches).
