Dickens er en institusjon i Halden, men nå risikerer lokalbefolkningen å miste det tradisjonsrike stedet. Eyvind Hellstrøm har bestemt seg for å rydde opp, men oppdager fort at ikke alle de ansatte på Dickens er like mottakelige for hans hjelp. Han får samtidig erfare hvor viktig stedet er for andre ansatte, og det blir en tårevåt kamp for å redde restauranten. Det blir også plass til litt moro underveis, når en stor bande amcar-entusiaster svinger innom for å spise. Da er det ikke fritt for at også mesterkokk Hellstrøm tar skinnjakka på.
