In Hellstrøms Mesterkokk, 14 men and women who already work in restaurant kitchens will meet in a tough competition. Chefs in the Norwegian elite, chefs with experience from the world's best restaurants and young, brilliant culinary talents are given tasks in food and cooking, and they must perform their very best to advance in the competition. The competitors travel to Western Norway and Northern Norway to work with the best raw materials. Master chef Eyvind Hellstrøm will in each program select one who must leave the competition, and in the end he chooses "his" new chef. The winner of Hellstrøm's master chef receives NOK 250,000, as well as a paid study stay at two of New York's foremost restaurants, "Daniel" and "Per Se". Both restaurants have three stars in the Michelin guide.
