It seems that there is no place for failures in the life of cardiac surgeon Viktor Sturm, but the ideal facade is cracking due to problems in his personal life: Victoria's 14-year-old daughter loses trust in her father when he refuses to take on a hopeless patient. Trying to return his daughter's love, Sturm loses control, disrupts the operation and finds himself outside the profession. Trying to cope with a turning point in his career, a world-class doctor unexpectedly finds himself in a hospice, where his first wife and former classmate are dying. Trying to help her, Sturm gets a job at an institution as an orderly and, under the supervision of a local doctor, Maria Pichugina, nicknamed Birdie, begins the journey from a cynic to a man who is not afraid of death.
