Începutul sezonului doi îl găseşte pe Andrei Poenaru într-un soi de acalmie temporară: a divorţat, s-a mutat din casa familiei şi a închiriat parterul unei vile pe care l-a transformat atât într-un spaţiu de locuit, cât şi în cabinet. Proprietara vilei este Ileana, mama Dianei, fosta sa pacientă. Prietenia cu Ileana îl ajută să nu se simtă atât de singur. Dar, la capătul unei singure săptămâni, atunci când Andrei va trece pragul locuinţei Mariei, terapeuta sa, apele se vor fi tulburat, din nou, ameninţător: Gheorghe Someşanu, tatăl lui Victor, militarul care s-a sinucis în sezonul 1, îl ameninţă cu un proces de malpraxis, pentru că îl consideră direct responsabil de moartea fiului său. În plus, Andrei are pacienţi noi şi extrem de dificili: Dinu, un faimos actor, director al unui teatru important; Ioana, o fostă pacientă, acum avocat de succes, singură şi fără copii; Clara, o studentă la arhitectură, care ascunde o boală gravă de familie şi de viitorul ei soţ, şi Ştefan, băiatul cu probleme de greutate şi de personalitate al lui Tudor şi al Ruxandrei, cuplul pe care Andrei l-a consiliat în sezonul 1. Însă, mai gravă e dilema sa profesională: îi ajută el, cu adevărat, pe pacienţi? La fel ca şi în primul sezon, personalitatea sa nevrotică îl face să se identifice cu mai toate problemele şi conflictele interpersonale ale clienţilor săi. Acum, îndoielile sale ajung la apogeu: simte că şi-a pierdut răbdarea, că a început să sară etape importante în terapie, că se implică prea mult în cazuri şi nu mai poate acorda pacienţilor timpul şi atenţia pe care ar merita-o.
