Moscow, 19th century. Lush balls, the glamour of estates, and behind-the-scenes intrigues. The young and eligible bachelor Count Nikolai Sheremetyev returns to the world of high society after the war. His arrival ignites the social circles, as mothers and daughters plot to secure a wealthy husband. However, things become more complicated for Nikolai, as his mother's will requires him to marry within a year, or he will lose his inheritance. Meanwhile, the Averin family finds themselves on the brink of ruin due to the family's gambling debts. Their daughter, Anna, a stubborn and witty noblewoman, decides to meet the count personally, hoping he will forgive their debt.
Sheremetyev, a man of principles, offers a deal: a year of Anna's service at his estate. Thus, Anna becomes the count's most unusual servant. As she adjusts to her new role, various suitors arrive at Nikolai's home. However, the more time they spend together, the more difficult it becomes to conceal their mutual attraction. In the meantime, the stories unfold between Anna's younger brother, Roma, and the daughter of wealthy neighbors, Yulia, as well as between Elena and Averin, a couple whose marriage teeters on the brink of collapse but still holds a flickering spark.
