The Prestige of Roof Tiles & A Bizarre Festival of Prosperity

Tsui on Awaji Island, Hyogo Pref., has been producing the captivating, silver roof tiles seen on temples, residences and other buildings for over 400 years. Walking around the town you'll see many objets d'art made with tiles and old kilns. Our reporter discovers the fire-and water-resistant properties of tiles and even tries his hand at karate-chopping them.
