Johnny Kingdom: A Year on Exmoor - Season 1

In the autumn,

Johnny Kingdom builds a new badger hide from where he will film Exmoor's wildlife over the coming year.

As the rutting season begins, Johnny attends to some unfinished business.

Johnny films the lively annual round-up of the Exmoor ponies, one of England's rarest breeds, and reminds himself he's no longer a poacher as he watches salmon leaping.

Johnny's plans to film Exmoor's wildlife in the snow are scuppered when he's asked to care for an injured buzzard.

In January, the nation's media go in pursuit of some wild boar on the loose, while Johnny gets close to some migrating spoonbills.

Spring arrives, but Johnny's three-legged pet deer, Bambi, is not well. A difficult decision has to be made about her future.

The amateur cameraman tries to film badgers from his hide, but the food he's put down is eaten by squirrels, pheasants and rats.

Johnny's search for red deer calves leads to a close encounter with an animal that no one realised was living wild on Exmoor.

Johnny's quest to discover a newborn red deer calf is interrupted by a sighting of a red-legged partridge herding her chicks to safety.

Johnny manages to buy the land on which his badger hide stands, but the excitement is overshadowed by worries about his pet deer, whose back leg is getting worse.
