Joseph, an accomplished archaeologist, originally from Crete, arrives on the island in order to help with his knowledge in a local excavation.

Joseph meets Stella, who was once a beauty and today is a shadow of herself. Kostas, her partner, misses Stella who fell in love and got married. He accidentally discovers a statue on his estate, that will remind him again what love means.

The seismic activity in the area upsets Joseph, who tries to come to terms with the present by delving into his memories from the distant past.

Joseph's letters reach an apartment in London, in which Sarah no longer lives. Joseph seems to be slowly coming to his senses, feeling a little more sure of his steps.

Joseph, on one of his outings for running, twists his ankle badly. He will ask for help and will meet in a small mountain village a young priest, Stavros, who has recently been ordained and knows well the beneficial properties of herbs.

On a festive day, Joseph will meet the lonely George, who lives on the fringes of a small society.

Joseph has his birthday and the students bring him an elaborate cake as a gift. Its creator is a young girl, Angeliki, who has great talent in confectionery but is trapped in a small society and her mother's plans for marriage and family.

Joseph decides to visit his father's long-closed ancestral home. He will find Giorgos as his supporter, in his effort to put it together.

During the excavation, Joseph is faced with the discovery of a particular find. These are the remains of a leather-bound book with French poems. Near the find, human bones belonging to a German soldier were soon exhumed.

Joseph sees a sketch portraying himself at the local coffee shop. He starts looking for its creator. That's how he will get to meet the wife of a wealthy captain, young Antigone, who lives in a remote villa with her austere mother-in-law.

Joseph visits the ruins of ancient Lato, where matriarchy once thrived. His companion in this is Athena, a woman who's built her life according to what's right and ended up on the island following random signs she mistook for omens

While getting ready for his departure bidding farewell to people Joseph met and places he went, Ellie's arrival on the island changes his plans. She holds a map and a key to his heart. But is that enough to make him stay?
